Getting from Jeddah Airport to Makkah
Updated 30 October 2026

Most travellers heading to Makkah land at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. From there, it is around a hundred kilometres to the holy city. Here are the three ways to make the journey, and what matters when choosing.
Private transfer with a driver
A driver meets you outside the airport and drops you at your hotel. It is the simplest option after a long flight, especially with luggage, children or elderly travellers: no connection, no waiting, and the vehicle is reserved for you alone.
Allow about 1 to 1.5 hours by road depending on traffic. The price is fixed in advance for the whole vehicle: it does not depend on the number of passengers, up to the seats of the vehicle you choose.
The Haramain high-speed train
The Haramain train links Jeddah, including its airport, with Makkah and Madinah. The train ride is fast, but Makkah station is a distance from the Haram: you then need a taxi or a transfer to your hotel.
It is a good option if you travel light and the train times suit your arrival. Remember to book the ride from the station to the hotel.
Taxis and ride-hailing apps
Taxis and app-based cars are available at the airport. You find out the price when you ride, and at busy times it can be hard to find a vehicle big enough for a family and its luggage.
How to choose
Arriving at night, as a family or with a lot of luggage: a private transfer saves you any waiting. Travelling alone and light: the train can work, as long as you plan the last leg to the hotel.
Either way, book your ride before you leave during Ramadan and the main pilgrimage periods: demand is very high and transport prices are higher then.
