Choosing a hotel in Makkah: distance to the Haram
Updated 30 October 2026

In Makkah, the distance between your hotel and Masjid Al Haram matters more than anything else: it sets the price, and you will feel it five times a day. Here is how to find your way.
Right by the Haram: 3 to 6 minutes' walk
The hotels in the towers around the Haram, near the Clock Tower and Jabal Omar, are the closest. You reach the mosque in a few minutes, even at busy times. They are also the most sought after and the most expensive, especially during Ramadan.
The sweet spot: 6 to 10 minutes' walk
A little further out, 5-star hotels remain within a ten-minute walk, often at a gentler price. Many families choose them to stay close without paying for the front row.
The best price: 15 to 20 minutes or more
Hotels further away cost noticeably less. Some run a shuttle to the mosque. They suit a long stay or a tight budget, as long as you are comfortable with walking or shuttles.
What makes prices vary
The same hotel can cost several times more depending on the season: Ramadan, and above all its last ten nights, school holidays and long weekends. The “from” prices on our website are those of the least busy dates.
Also check breakfast (included or extra depending on the hotel), the room set-up (some triples and quads are doubles with extra beds) and the view, which costs extra.
How we help
You choose one or two hotels, or give us your budget. We check with our partners and send you an offer in euros at our negotiated rates. The room is confirmed with the hotel and paid before you arrive.
